N.J. Chamber President and CEO Tom Bracken's statement on the state Senate's decision not to vote on paid sick leave legislation:
The New Jersey Chamber of Commerce believes it is good news that the New Jersey state Senate decided not to vote Monday on Senate Bill S799, the legislation that forces employers to offer paid sick leave.
According to news reports, the legislation was pulled from consideration because it did not have enough support to pass.
We want to thank the legislators from both parties who are willing to listen and consider the reasoned arguments of the business community in opposing this bill.
We and other business organizations have expressed strong concerns about how expensive this measure will be for New Jersey businesses, especially small businesses.
The N.J. Chamber repeats that it is ready at any time to meet with state legislative leaders to discuss how we can work together to make New Jersey more competitive, grow our state's economy and create jobs.
