N.J. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas Bracken's statement on Transportation Trust Funding and the Republican National Convention
As I watched the Republican National Convention roll call on Monday night, I was struck by the number of times delegates displayed pride in their respective states, and talked about the prominence and prosperity in place "back home." That's in stark contrast to the stalled Transportation Trust Fund/tax fairness situation we are facing here in New Jersey.
The states pounding their chest cannot compare to the wealth of resources and location we enjoy, yet they seem to be maximizing what they have and overachieving. We on the other hand are gridlocked, letting one of our most valuable assets, our infrastructure, continue to languish. We are falling well short of the enormous potential our state can achieve. All of this due to senseless bickering and failure to compromise. Any of the components of the proposed TTF/tax fairness solutions, if enacted, would be positives for the state. Put together in the right way, the solution could lead to a game changer for our state and revitalize our economic recovery.
We have a unique opportunity staring us in the face. We can either seize it by adopting a robust solution and accelerate our economic recovery, or we can face potentially devastating consequences resulting from further inaction or a timid solution. We deserve the former.
