The Event on Sept.17 and 18 will Propose Solutions to the State's Top Economic Issues

The New Jersey Chamber of Commerce announced today that it is spearheading a first-of-its-kind Summit that will bring business executives from across New Jersey to the Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City on Sept.17 and 18. The Summit will examine key issues that New Jersey government leaders must address to improve New Jersey's competitive standing in the nation and the world.

The issues to be discussed were identified in a survey of New Jersey business executives between April and June.

This two-day Summit will include many of the state's chambers of commerce, business trade associations, not-for-profits, labor organizations, and  institutions of higher education, as well as representatives of the Christie administration, the state Legislature, and local governments.

"This is a great opportunity for the business community to do something it has not done in a very long time - speak with a unified voice to government officials whom we believe are ready to listen," said Tom Bracken, president and CEO of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce.

On the first day of the Summit, Sept. 17, participants will discuss recommendations for solving the state's top economic issues. On day two, Sept. 18, participants will formulate specific 'next steps' to present to government leaders.

Pressing Issues

For the past few months, the N.J. Chamber of Commerce has been working with chambers of commerce from across the state to survey business executives to determine the most pressing issues hampering New Jersey's economic growth.

The most frequently cited issues will be addressed at the Summit. They are:

  • Reforming the state's tax structure
  • Reducing government regulations and mandates
  • Funding transportation infrastructure projects
  • Maintaining a highly trained workforce in New Jersey

A more detailed agenda will be released shortly.

The event will be open to the media.
